What is IVF?

IVF stands for ‘In Vitro Fertilization’

IVF is a type of Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) to help people with fertility problems.

During IVF, hormone therapy is used to stimulate egg production and forego the natural cycle. Afterwards, human gametes are collected. Once the sperm fertilizes the egg, an embryo develops and is put back into the mother’s womb, which kickstarts the pregnancy process.

WHY CHOOSE TURKEY FOR IVF?

Turkey has a long track record for successful IVF treatments since 1989. Turkey offers a unique experience combining medical and conventional tourism where the majority of clients diminish the feeling of emotional stress during the treatment process.

There are a number of reasons why clients choose Turkey over their home countries for IVF treatments. These are;

Affordability

Compared to countries like the US or the UK, getting an IVF treatment is at least 50% cheaper in Turkey. In addition, in most cases, IVF treatments are not covered by insurance policies or the NHS.

Short waiting times

In cases where even if the insurance policy covers IVF treatments, it may take a long time to get approved and start the process.

In the UK for example, it may take up to 5 months just to get approved. Waiting times may be even more unpredictable due to the multiple cycles involved in IVF treatment.

Expertise and a proven Success Record

Turkish Doctors are very experienced and skilled. Turkey has become a top 10 destination in the world for medical tourism not by chance; Turkish doctors have world class equipment and extensive experience coupled with strict regulations from the Ministry of Health ensure a very successful and safe treatment.

On average, 42 000 IVF cycles are completed each year in Turkey and success rate for IVF treatments are consistently higher in Turkey than the US.

METHODOLOGY

Each IVF seeking client is different. Therefore, following the consultation process with our doctors, you will be required to complete a number of tests to determine the most suitable IVF method for you. In summary, steps of IVF can be summarised as follows;

Stimulation of the Eggs

Obtaining as many eggs as possible by stimulating the ovaries is the basis of treatment. This process varies from person to person, it takes about 10-12 days. In this process, drug levels should be adjusted according to the person and situation by performing ultrasonography every 2-3 days.

Collecting the Eggs

Egg growth in women occurs once a month. The collection is done 34-36 hours after the injection. Between 1 and 40 eggs are collected from the ovaries with an ultrasound-guided needle. The patient is discharged a few hours after the procedure, which takes about 30 minutes.

Retrieval of Sperm

A sperm sample is requested from the male candidate to ascertain whether the sperm is suitable. If there is no sperm in the semen, sperm is surgically removed from the ovaries. In the laboratory, sperm are separated from the semen.

Fertilization of Eggs

Eggs that are fertilized in the laboratory turn into embryos after around 12-15 hours. After this, embryo development is followed and the day is planned to ensure its transplant to the expectant mother on the appropriate day.

Embryo Transfer

Embryos should be transferred within 2 days after fertilization. Embryo numbers to be transferred is decided by the age of the expectant mother, previous attempts and embryo quality. Couples can leave the hospital as soon as the transfer is done. Two weeks after the procedure, the expectant mother is supplemented with progesterone or estrogen hormone which aids the process.

Pregnancy Test

Two weeks after the transfer, the expectant mother undergoes a pregnancy test. If the test is positive, an ultrasound control is performed 10 days later.

IVF TREATMENT CAN BE TRIED SEVERAL TIMES?

Couples are mostly advised to try IVF 3 times. Although there is a possibility of pregnancy in subsequent trials, it is very low.

WHEN IS IVF TREATMENT APPLIED?

Couples who decide to have a child can apply for in vitro fertilization if pregnancy does not occur despite having sexual intercourse for 1 year or longer without using any birth control method. This condition is called infertility in the medical literature.

WHAT IS THE AGE LIMIT IN IVF TREATMENT?

In vitro fertilization treatment can be applied up to the age of 45 for women whose ovarian functions are found to be suitable as a result of the tests. However, considering the decrease in the number and quality of eggs in women after the age of 35, the success rate of IVF treatment is low, especially in women over the age of 40.

Although there is no age limit for men, it should be taken into account that this situation, which decreases the quality of sperm with advancing age, may adversely affect the treatment.

WHAT IS THE SUCCESS RATE IN IVF TREATMENT?

Although public records submitted to the Ministry of Health are not disclosed, we can ascertain approximate numbers through private IVF clinic submissions. With CENDASA, you can be ensured that you will have access to the best IVF clinics in Turkey and have a holiday at the same time, removing the emotional stress of the procedure.
